A Tribute To The Genius of Sanskrit Theatre

Late Painkulam Rama Chakyar was an outstanding person in the Sanskrit threatre Koodiyattam, which is now recognised by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. He was one among the foremost instructors of Kerala Kalamandalam who witnessed the emergence of the new department for Koodiyattam at the institution.  Kerala Kalmandalam is a premier institutions for classical arts located at Cheruthuruthy , Thrissur dt in Kerala. Painkulam Rama Chakyar was the person who introduced the Sanskrit dance drama to a wider spectrum than from temples of Kerala.

Kairali Koodiyattam Padasala, an training centre for Koodiyattam promoted by young artists, is organising a three day program in remembrance of  Painkulam Rama Chakyar on his death anniversary. Kalatharangini Auditorium, Cheruthuruthi  at Thrissur district in Kerala will be the venue of the event on 25, 26 and 27 July 2014. The program starts with an inaugural session from 05.30 pm.  The details of the events are listed:




25 July: 06.00 pm Nangyarkoothu by Kalamandalam Girija.

26 July (Saturday)-06.00 pm: Koodiyattam by Kalamandalam Krishnakumar.
Story: Ambasthanyam
27 July(Sunday)-05.00 pm : Meeting and ceremonials in memory of Painkulam Rama Chakyar.
06.00 pm- Nangyarkoothu by Kalamandalam Krishnendu

Kairali Koodiyattam Padasala is organising the memorial event since several years. Performances, meetings and ceremonials on Koodiyattam will take place on these days.
