An Event To Familiarize Kathakali

Kathakali Parichayam, a program to familiarize Kathakali among common people organised by Purogamana Sahithya Sangam, Vellinezhi is a venture to promote the traditional art form of Kerala, Kathakali. The group is organizing their tenth stage Kathakali performance on 27 July 2014 (Sunday) at Vellinezhi, Palakkad in Kerala. The three hour performance starting from 06.30 pm, narrates the story on Ravanolbhavam, the origin of Ravana, a prominent character and the anti-hero from the epic Ramayana.



Kalamandalam Irina Jacobi, an artist from Germany, currently being trained in Kathakali and an ex-student of Kerala Kalamandalam will appear as Ravanan, the main character. The other two characters Kumbhakarnan and Vibhishanan will be presented by Kalamandalam Sibi Chakraborthy and Kalamandalam Adithyan respectively. The other supporting artists include Sadanam Jyotish Babu, Sreerag Varma (Songs / Pattu), Kalamandalam VenuMohan, Kalamandalam Ravisankar (Chenda-percussion), Kalamadalam Venu, Kalamamdalam Rahul Nambiar(Madhalam- percussion) Kalamandalam Sivaraman and Kalamandalam Sudhish (Chutti / Make-up). K B Raj Anand will narrate the story. The stage is set by Apputharakan, Balan and Mohan and costumes are by Manjuthara, Mangode. 

The whole story is narrated and described in detail to make the common people to understand and enjoy the play. Entry is open to all art lovers. The stage is set at Vellinezhi Govt. School, Vellinezhi in Palakkad.
