Thunchan Festival to begin on 28 Jan 2017

28-31 Jan 2017: Thunchan Festival
The annual festival dedicated to the poet saint Thunchath Ezhuthanchan,  Organised by Thunchan Memorial Trust, Tirur (Ph: +91- 494 2422213, www.thunchanmemorial.com) in association with Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi to begin on 28 Jan 2017.  National seminar on ‘Multi Culturalism in Indian Writing’, Poets Meet, dance/music performances etc are the highlights. The four –day festival concludes on 31 Jan 2017.


The Thunchan memorial is situated at the site of the house in which the poet saint Thunchath Ezhuthachan was born, 450 years ago.  Thunchath Ezhuthachan re-wrote the two great epics "Ramayanam" and "Mahabharatham" in Malayalam that influenced the mass of Kerala. The influence of the Bhakthi movement, which had gained strength in the 16th century, is clearly visible in Ezhuthachan's Ramayanam and Mahabharatham. Thunchan's house was just one Kilometer away from the Thrikkandiyoor Temple of which the presiding deity is Lord Mahadeva.
