IFFK to begin without any celebrations

IFFK - International Film Festival of Kerala

The 22nd edition of the International film festival of Kerala will begin on 08 December 2017 at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The official inauguration of the festival will be conducted at Nishagandhi Auditorium, Thiruvananthapuram.

The inaugural celebrations of the fest are cancelled due to the mishap caused by the Ockhi Cyclone disaster. The festival begins with screening of the film ‘The Insult’ directed by Ziad Doueiri at 06.00 pm at Nishagandhi Auditorium. Renowned actors Madhabi Mukherjee and Prakash Raj will be present for the first screening.



The Jury Chairman of IFFK is Marco Mueller, who was the festival director of various international film festivals.  Film directors T.V Chandran, Columbian actor Merlin Moreno, French editor Mary Stephen, African Film Critic Aboubakar Sanogo are the rest of the Jury Members.

190 films from 65 countries  will be screened in the fest. The competition section includes 14 films from different regions. Films will be exhibited in 20 various categories like Indian Cinema Today, Malayalam Films Today, Contemporary masters in focus, Retrospective, Identity and Space.

A total of 8848 seats are arranged in various theatres in the town. workshops and Lecture series are also conducted as part of the fest. There are provisions for the delegates to book their seats for the films via the IFFK official website, mobile app, or the helpdesk. The helpdesks will be functional from 8am to 9pm and the bookings can be done one day prior to the screening.


The fest will give due importance for the Safety of Women attendees, said Beena Paul, Artistic director of the festival. Attendees can raise their complaint at talktous@iffk.in, she added. Special facilities are arranged for the differentially-abled people and senior citizens.

The film festival will conclude on December 15.
