Gurusmarana Kutiyattam Festival by Nepathya

‘Gurusmarana’, the Kutiyattam festival in memory of  Kutiyattam maestro Guru Padmashri Moozhikkulam Kochukuttan Chakyar organized by Nepathya will commence on 15 June 2018 at Nepathya's Koothambalam, Moozhikkulam. The 4-day festival will present Kutiyattam performances on these days. The Kochukuttan Chakyar memorial lecture will be on 17 June by Prof Kesavan Veluthatt, the noted historian (Topic - Sanskrit Theatre and the Emergence of Malayalam Literature).

Actors – Margi Madhu Chakyar (Samvarana), Margi Sajeev Narayana Chakyar (Parasarya).
18 June – Jadayuvadham (story).
Actors – Nepathya Yadukrishnan (Ravanan), Nepathya Vishnu Prasad (Jatayu), Nepathya Rahul Chakyar (Sutha), Dr Indu G (Seetha).

Padmashri Moozhikkulam Kochukuttan Chakyar (1928-2009), the maestro in Kutiyattam has done immense contributions to Kutiyattam, the Sanskrit theatre tradition. He was honored with several awards and recognitions including the Central Sangeetha Nataka Akademi award.

Nepathya, the centre for excellence in Koodiyattam is an institution that promote and preserve the traditional art form Kutiyattam. 

Kutiyattam / Koodiyattam is the traditional Sanskrit theatre tradition that exist in Kerala. In 2001, UNESCO has declared it as 'Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity' .
