Prabhandhakoothu also known as Chakyar koothu is an ancient form of Sanskrit theatre, an associate performing art developed along with Kutiyattam, the Sanskrit theatre tradition of Kerala.

Prabhandakoothu is a highly ritualistic story telling performance presented as a monologue in which the performer narrates the stories from mythology, satirically relating it to the socio-political situations.
The story presented here is Ramayanam, the epic story of Raman and Ravanan and will be presented in ten days by different artists. The event titled ‘Avanikoothu Maholsavam ‘ is organized by Rangadwani Kutiyatta Kalakendram, Harippad as part of the Avani festival at Harippad Subrahmaniaswami temple.
