The 24th edition of the International film festival of Kerala will commence on 06 December 2019 at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Cheif Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will officially inaugurate the festival on 06 Dec, 06.00 pm, at Nishagandhi Auditorium. The festival is organised by Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, an institution by Government of Kerala to promote cinema, on behalf of Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Kerala.

‘Passed by Censor’ directed by Serhat Karaaslan is the opening film for the 24th International film festival of Kerala (iffk). The film that has won several accolades and awards will have its Indian premier at iffk 2019. A total of 186 films from 73 countries will be screened during the eight days of the festival. Films will be exhibited in various categories like Indian Cinema Now, Malayalam Cinema Today, World Cinema, Kaleidoscope etc. 14 theatres across the city including Tagore theatre the main venue, are arranged for the festival.  Nishagandhi open air theatre where the opening and closing ceremony of the festival takes place is the biggest venue of the festival with 3500 seats.



There are provisions for the movie lovers to book their seats for the films via online or mobile app. Special facilities are arranged for senior citizens and differently-abled persons. There will be women volunteers to give a due importance for the safety of women and children. The helpdesk in Thiruvananthapuram will function at Tagore Theatre. Seminars and workshops will be conducted as part of the festival. ‘In Conversation’, a session with film fraternities will be held at Tagore theatre premises from 2.30 pm to 3.30 pm and Aravindan Memorial Lecture will be at Nila Theatre. Some other programs, Homages, Film Market, Open Forum etc will also be conducted at iffk 2019.

Jury members in the International section of iffk 2019 are Iranian actresses Fatemeh Motamed-Arya, Egyptian film director Khairy Beshara, Kazakh film-maker Amir Karakulov, Marathi film maker Nagraj Manjule and Cinematographer & Director Rajiv Menon are the other main Jury Members. The film festival will conclude on December 13.
