FolkRitual_Guruthi during Pallipana_Alamkode Aryankavu Bhagavathy Temple...

Guruthi also known as Gurusi is a symbolic offering of
blood to the deity, mainly the Mother Goddess Bhadrakali.  Velichappadu (oracles), representing the deity
appears in ceremonial costumes, carrying a sword, performs in trance in front
of the vessels kept for this purpose. The blood like solution is prepared by
mixing powders of turmeric and shell lime with water.  The priest powerfully sprinkles the whole water
on the feet of the oracles. The beats of Chenda accompany this function. This
ritual usually ends within 10 minutes. In the Pallipana festival, Guruthi is an
essential ritual. Here the Pana performers do the sprinkling of water.
