Panapidutham
(Video 01): 
The afternoon session of Panapidutham, the ritual
performance held as part of Pallipana Festival.

Panapidutham also known as Valathu is a group performance
by men(16 or in even numbers)
wearing white Mundu and holding a wooden short stick
called Panathandu, decorated with coconut
flowers, encircles the temporary sanctum sanctorum in
rhythmic manner with slow and fast movements. The main accompanying instrument
is a drum called Para. Other accompaniments are Chenda and Elathalam. This
whole performance will take about forty five minutes. Panapidutham is a main
ritual in the 24 hours long Pallippana Festival, conducted to propitiate the
Mother Goddess Bhadrakali. Panapidutham is performed two times, one in the late
afternoon and again after midnight.  This
video of Panapidutham is held in the late afternoon.
