Thodayam Kathakali Yogam, a Kathakali club based at
Kozhikode, Kerala, India who organises
monthly Kathakali (classical performing art of Kerala) programmes and awareness classes for the last 25 years, is
celebrating its Silver Julibee. As part of the concluding session of the silver
jubilee year, Thodayam is going to conduct an Aatta sapthakam, seven day long
Kathakali festival, from 21- 27 September 2014,
which include seminars, demonstrations and familiarisation classes too.
The story Nalacharitham is to be staged in the evenings of
all the seven days of the festival. Nalacharitham is the story of an ordinary
King Nalan, who by fate facing many difficulties in his life. The story Nalacharitham is taken from
Mahabharatha. Attakatha, Kathakali
version of the story was written by Unnayi Varier and usually been played in
four parts, in four days. But here at Thodayam Festival, it is going to play in
seven parts, by including some more interesting scenes from the Attakatha,
directed by Kalamandalam Vasu Pisharady.
Seminars, discussions and demonstrative classes (all in
the vernacular language Malayalam) enrich the morning and afternoon sessions in
all these days. Apart from Nalacharitham Attakatha, some other aspects of
Mahabharatha will also be discussed in detail, during these sessions. The venue
is
Padmashree Kalyana Mandapam, Tali, Kozhikode. The
