The 12th Kutiyattam festival at Nepathya Moozhikkulam will be held from 15 to 29 of august this year. The festival will be inaugurated by Prof. David Shulman, a scholar in Sanskrit/ Kutiyattam from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Guru Ammannur Kuttan Chakyar, a Kutiyattam artiste who was honoured with Kendra Sangeet Natak Akademi Award this year, will be felicitated on the occasion.
The two week festival organized by Nepathya, centre for
Kutiyattam focusing on the performance of two Sanskrit dramas, Neelakanta Kavi’s ‘Kalyana Saugandhikam’ and ‘Jatayuvadham’,
the the fourth act of Sakthibhadran’s play ‘Ascharyachoodamani’, both based on
the Hindu mythology. A newly choreographed Nangiarkoothu ‘Geethagovindam’ will
be staged on the inaugural day. The event is supported by the Hebrew University
of Jerusalem and the European Research Council. The schedule of performances is given.
